After a stormy few months in which mother and son were at legal loggerheads about custody and living arrangements, Madonna and her son Rocco appear to have built enough bridges that they were able to enjoy a peaceful night out at a London restaurant Tuesday night.
Madonna and Rocco sat down for dinner at a North London pizzeria near his father Guy Ritchies home, where Rocco has been living since last Christmas.
Rocco, 16, has recently started at a new school, and the 58-year-old superstar was reportedly concerned that her boy was starting the new school year while Guy, 48, was away in Malibu, staying with the British musician Sting and his wife, Trudie Styler. So she decided to spend a few days in London helping Rocco settle in.
A source told the Mail: Its the start of a new school year and if his father, who lives in London, cant be there, then his mother is going to have to be.
Earlier this week, Madonna was pictured walking arm-in-arm with Roccos new headmistress.
The mother and son sitdown came after almost a year of tumult between the two.
The saga, as Madonna has referred to it, began last year when Rocco refused to come back to New York after a trip to visit his dad, according to multiple reports.
Rocco had had enough of Madonnas soccer mom parenting style, and the final straw came when she confiscated his phone when he didnt do his homework,according to a report inThe Sun.
Over Christmas, Madonna obtained a court order from a New York court telling Rocco to return to the city in time to start the new term at his New York high school, the Lyce Franais.
However, Rocco ignored the ruling and stayed in London,telling a friend on Instagram, Im staying here, bro.
Madonna has long been known as a strict parent. Speaking more than a decade ago about her daughter Lourdes getting in trouble for her sloppiness, Madonna told Newsweek: She has to earn all of her clothes back by being tidy, picking up things in her room, making her bed in the morning… She wears the same outfit every day to school until she learns her lesson.
The Rocco row was made worse by Madonnas feeling that her ex, film director Ritchie, was doing little to encourage her son to return to live with her.
At a performance in Nashville in January, she allegedly referred to her ex-husband as a cunt; when an audience member shouted out that they wanted to marry her, Madge replied, Im looking for a husband, not a cunt. I already married a cunt.
Last week, however, Madonna finally conceded defeat.
A court spokesman, Lucian Chalfen, confirmed in New York that the divorced singer and filmmaker had reached a settlement, and although the details were not released, Ritchies lawyer later said that Rocco will continue to live with his father in London.
Madonnas presence in London, her visit to his school, and last nights dinner will be interpreted as a clear sign that Madonna has accepted the agreement, and will no longer obstruct Roccos clear wish to be based in the U.K.
