Taylor Swift returns with apparent Kanye diss song, ‘Look What You Made Me Do’

BTW

Pop icon Taylor Swift on Thursday night released “Look What You Made Me Do,” a Twitter-seizing new single that’s almost surely a Kanye West diss track.

This after deleting her social media posts, replacing them with ominous snake videos, and Wednesday’s news that new album Reputation will arrive Nov. 10.

“I don’t trust nobody and nobody trusts me,” she sings. Later she makes no bones about who she’s dissing: “I don’t like your tilted stage.”

Three years after smash record 1989, the enigmatic and rivalry prone Swift seems to be targeting her enemies with fire and fury (West, Katy Perry, famous ex-boyfriends). She even got acclaimed director Joseph Kahn to helm the lyrics video, while fans wait for the proper music video to reportedly premiere Friday on Good Morning America.

A defiant Swift makes clear that she’s not here to make friends on the theatrical revenge song: “I’m sorry, but the old Taylor can’t come to the phone right now,” she says. “Why? Oh, ’cause she’s dead.”

Online it became an instant conversation piece, dominating late-night Twitter trends in the U.S.

Over on Swift’s online merchandise store, the singer began selling snake-emblazoned gear, including a snake ring, hoodie, and phone holder. She’s embracing the serpent aesthetic on this imminent album cycle—leaving behind folksy, optimistic pop, and going full-on mean girl.

The song was co-produced by Jack Antonoff of pop-rock band Bleachers.

Now’s a good time to make sure you and Swift are in good standing.
