While I will never know what it’s like to be a multi-million dollar singer with gangs of friends and fans and luxuries like scented trash bags in my personal tour bus or even my bathroom, for that matter I would like to think I would still be able to rise above petty personal feuds played out in the public eye.
But judging by Taylor Swift and Katy Perry, apparently that’s not always the case.
By now we all know that Taylor Swift has grown up, and while she makes amazing music, she has also made waves in the past couple of years for other reasons.
She’s gone from innocent young crooner to spilling“Bad Blood” with people like Nicki Minaj, Kimye,all her ex-boyfriends and famously, Katy Perry.
But we’ll get to that in a minute.
First, we have to get to her announcement thatSwifty is releasing her entire back catalogue on Spotify.
The release was in celebration of 1989 selling over 10 million copies worldwide, which is a pretty big deal, even more so becausethree years ago, Swift lead a boycott against Spotify and pulledall her music from the streaming service.
“Music is art, and art is important and rare,” she wrote. “Important, rare things are valuable. Valuable things should be paid for. It’s my opinion that music should not be free, and my prediction is that individual artists and their labels will someday decide what an album’s price point is. I hope they don’t underestimate themselves or undervalue their art.”
Long story short, people are now freaking out because they can stream Taylor’s stuff.
But the announcement comes on the day that Katy Perry’s new album “Witness” is set to release.
In fact, it was set to be released the same hour that T-Swift made her announcement about Spotify.
Coincidence?
Seeing as Perry and Swift have an age-long beef with each other, with Perry most recently accusing Swift oftrying to “assassinate her character” in a recent interview with NME, it’s a little bit shady.
Just ask Twitter, as they were thinking there’s no such thing as a coincidence.
“Wait. So Taylor Swift put her music back on Spotify the same day Katy Perry released her new album. That’s petty as hell,” another one tweeted.
Did Taylor go into this with a plan?
Of course, not everyone was on Team Perry…
